We lived near the end of an RAF runway in the 60s. These things came over our roof on full take off power at low level, rattling every window and object in the house - ABSOLUTELY DEAFENING - scaring the hell out of me and my baby sister. Concorde was even worse though. with its reheat. I went past Heathrow's main runway on a LOUD motorbike in the 80s, just as it was commencing take off. Couldn't hear the bike at all, or even feel the vibrations from the engine above those four Olympuses.
The best Air Shows I ever went to was in July 1973 and July 1977. They featured the RAF Red Arrows,Seven F-101 Voodoos,USAF Five F-4 Phantoms,CAF C-130 Hercules JATO Demo, and RAF Vulcan Bomber as the 2nd last demo before the CAF Snowbirds team demo. i saw the RAF Concorde twice,SR 71 Blackbird,F-14 Tomcat,F-15 Eagle,USAF F-111 Aardvark,USAF F-100 Supre Sabre,F-106 Delta Darts,F-104 Starfighter all in the late 70s. As well the USAF B-1 Lancer Bomber con'tinued...
I had an aunt who lived in Biggin Hill when i was young and we went there every year to see the air show in the 70s/80s.Vulcans and English Electric Lightnings were the ones I remember. Pardon? Eh? cant quite hear you. who said anything about permanent ear damage back then.
i think the vulcan's coming to us in east fortune this year, i'm gonna be there so hopefully if it makes a show i'll catch it on some form of camera and upload...

Great video, except a shame the audio is so shite..
Especially when it's the SOUND that stands this plane apart from all others

Saw B-1 Lancer many times since the early 80s. The RAF VC-10 Vicker,RAF Nimrod, and the Russian equivalent to the USAF B-1 Lancer & XB-70 Valkyrie.
