@tonkinshipwreck69 People would eventually use up whatever funds they had accumulated anyway with the kind of economic problems there are and have also long been in the country. If the economy wasn't expensive, which it is on the east and west coasts, f.e., then savings could last a long time, if people were earning the same amount either way. That's not the case though. The cost of living has greatly increased over the past 30, 40, ... years, disporportionately to incomes.

Americans have spent themselves into oblivion. Most middleclass including myself should have money in the bank, but we spend it as we get it.
