Yes, commonly known as 'the DC scene', anyway it doesn't negate the fact that they started the whole 'old-school' emo thing.

As a side note, The Cure are considered to be the fathers of the whole Gothic genre. When Robert Smith was asked about his whole stance towards this he replied that he doesn't want his music to be referred with such a title even tho it was dark and gloomy. The oncoming albums had a more pop-ish vibe to them.

The word "emo" isn't really too bothersome to me, but as a high school student, I see all kinds of kids who try to embody emo culture, and it makes me mad. My anger at the description of the video is caused by these little kids ruining my perception of emo or hardcore punk.

Not really. Post-punk is like Gang of Four and Mission of Burma and came after the first wave of punk in the late 70s (thus, "post" punk), whereas Fugazi is the definitive post-hardcore band that rose out of the ashes of the 80s hardcore movement. Not post-punk. You've got your movements mixed up.
