David Bass the fiddler tells us that at one time when the price of corn got so low that the best thing to do was sell it as corn liquor--why, the code word for that moonshine was "Four-cent cotton."

The Freight Hoppers were headliners at the Pickin In the Pines Bluegrass & Acoustic Music Festival held 18-20 September 2009 in Flagstaff, AZ.

  • seems like they call it that because it left your mouth soooo dry the next morning. hence " I got drunk on four cent cotton".

  • Solid!

  • 4 CENTCOTTON IS MOONSHINE....

  • I believe the story was that cotton got so low as that the cost of growing it exceeded price of selling it, so the farmer's switched to grow corn and sell to shiners.

  • Very nice gents. Any change you have a gig in the Los Angeles area any time?
