@octane130 I was lucky enough to witness the "Golden Years" of aviation when Radial Engined Airliners were the norm, rather than confined to the airshow circuit.
I got to fly on all the big Douglas's and also Super Connies. What memory's.
I now regularly get to see the H.A.R.S. C121C (L1049F) Super Connie on the Aussie airshow circuit and am looking forward to seeing both their DC4 and C131C (CV340) both currently undergoing restoration, join the Connie on flying displays.

@oktobercat I wish someone would put one of those engines in a car or truck. Then you'd really give people a suprise--they'd be like "What the hell you got in that car?!?"

One good pair of Pratt & Whitney engines in a WWII warbird=the best sounding engines and one heck of a plane!
-
Good to see these classic planes in caring hands, it,s a shame more of them were not saved from the boneyards, these mighty metal birds give us a noble heritage link to the past, the start up sequence is pure ear candy.55/5

WOW !!
Were there any twin engined P&W powerd planes that used 1 right hand turning and 1 left hand turning engines
Actually there is something that can beat a P&W. It's called a Wright R3350 Turbo Compound.

@Bellakelpie:I got to see the arrival of the Yanks Air Museum's Lockheed Super Constellation at Chino Airport (Calif.) two weekends ago. It took 7 years to get this aircraft flyable to ferry it to Chino from Camarillo, Calif. This aircraft, of course, has the turbo-compound Wright R-3350s. One of the most complicated radial engines ever built, if not THE most complicated (even more complicated the the P&W R-4360). It has three exhaust-driven "power recovery turbines" per engine.
