am i out of line for wanting to be independant and on my own? or do you still not understand what i am saying?

or are you one of the morons who believe what the phone reps say, "without a data plan, your phone wont work right". lol

i would prefer not to be tethered to googles services and then update maps at my own will through my internet. then i would be able to use the gps service with out a data plan on my phone and without anyone holding my hand.

i know people like you nowadays just cant fathom being without big brother holding your hand through every daily activity. me, i like to be independant. these corporations want to hold your hand through everything so they can nickle and dime you for stupid crap

This guy talks too slowly. Does he think we're stupid? It's not like we need a map... oh wait.

What is it you don't get? You download the maps from the Internet, that way you'll allways have fresh maps (as fresh as they'll get as of now anyways). The GPS positioning is still free and uses the same satellites as a TomTom or Garmin etc. would use.

Make sense? Or do you need Google to draw you a map?

why does it use internet to use the gps? so they can charge you? instead of using the free government satelites that standard GPS car navigation uses? typical.

It doesn't use the internet for GPS... It uses the Internet for downloading the routing information and map data from Google...

id rather just use gps satellites for free than be charged monthly. who cares if it comes from google.........

Then buy a tomtom or garmin or something else :)

anyone know if there is a car dock for the g1 for it to be displayed sideways like the the droid?
