Note: The video is darker here on YouTube

For our 3rd project at school in the "Design and Digital arts for Video games" program, we had to create a single-player playable game demo in teams of 10 people. At our school, each student specializes himself or herself in one specific field: level design, level art, animation or character modeling.

We used Half-Life 2's Source engine and the Hammer editor, as well as 3D studio Max 9.0 to create the 2 playable levels in our game/mod: The Plague. This video is a recorded version of someone actually playing the game. The demo was developed between February 26th and June 8th 2007. It is NOT meant to look "next-gen".

Our goal was to replace all of Half-Life 2's characters, props, and animations with our own models. Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties, time restrictions and because we had no programmers on our team, this was not all possible; as you can see we are still using one character from Half-Life 2 as well as some of their animations. The rest is all ours.

  • this map have a bit of fallout feeling

its some kind of combine aftermath?

  • Haha, now that you mention it, it's true that it does have a fallout atmosphere to it. We did this back in 2006-2007 though haha! We named this mod "The Plague", so it is some kind of aftermath haha!

Good times... haha.

Bonne chance pour la fin des études!

  • (Sorry for replying one month later) It is possible to make a full game that can be sold for profit also. Obviously, you need to get permission from Valve to sell it. If they like it enough, they will publish it and you will get a cut of the profit. (Take Garry's Mod 10 and Zeno Clash for example)

  • If you have Half-Life 2 installed on your PC, you can make a mod (your own map/game) using Hammer (level editor) and Source (engine). You can use your own textures, own models, etc.

  • "We used Half-Life 2's Source engine " how i can get that? Its posible to edit all scenes with it? and make own game?

  • posting snipers and teams of 3 enemies jumping from high cliffs to melee you would be a great addition
