  • Thanks for the post. Very interesting. Hope you continue, but looks like you could pretty much write your own book. Always stoked to hear what Griffin fans have to say. Thanks!

  • I'm an artist and graphics fan, and Griffin's work was a big love and influence of mine.I visited this exhibition and loved it but for the inept informational tags accompanying the works.I politely pointed out the roughly one dozen or so errors--not typos-- in the content on the tags out to a young gallery sitter, who seemed to take offense. I wondered how it could that have gotten by the curator and all the artists and friends of Griffin who visited the exhibit? He deserves more than that!

  • @toiseywoisey Thanks for your comments and glad you like the exhibition, sorry about the informational tags. Was wondering if you ever got a chance to look at the catalogue and what you thought of it?

  • you know what most don't notice on the PV poster is, that is a female lying in the foreground, She is actually taken from the film. Check it out closely during a Waimea segment and you will notice where Rick Pulled that image from..

  • What a great tidbit of info! Thanks styley.

  • Joe: No apology necessary, and a "thank you" for your comprehensive chronology of Griffin's life's work! I did look at the catalog but didn't, with only a peek, find information about technique and materials which is my interest. Then again, it's always been difficult to find information on the artist's technique in most exhibitions, catalogs and texts, I believe for the reason that these things are prepared by non-artists for the public, both of who have little interest in that sort of detail.

  • Mr. Copro: I suppose I should apologize for my curmudgeonly post. I sincerely do believe that one should praise in public/chastise in private, so forgive me for my emotional lapse. Although a bit younger, I grew up on the beaches that Griffin surfed, my family named our puppy Murphy, and I know many surfer's who knew the man, so us South Bayans have a little unearned pride over him. I am also a cartoonist/artist/art teacher, so that might explain my strong emotions on the subject...

  • Rick Griffin was always an inspiration to me, not only as an artist but also for my faith. Early on in my Christian life I found out that Griffin had become one himself back in the early 1970s and after I saw a bunch of his artwork from throughout his life, I concluded, "Hmmm, if this weirdo (I use the term in an endearing, complimentary way) can be a Christian, then maybe Christianity isn't so lame and boring after all." I forever thank Jesus for turning me on to Rick Griffin.

  • great excelente ,thanks

  • hey ucle greg
