3rd march 2007 - Ewan Racecourse. Building a dam at Bluewater Creek
http://www.bdtnrm.org.au/projects/spiral/pandrewsworkshop.html
Peter demonstrated how water
speed, direction and force can cause
massive changes to landscapes cree
and river systems. Nicknamed the
human beaver, Peter created a
ponding system in Bluewater Creek
behind the Ewan Race Track.
Within 10 minutes, water was
ponding behind a simple wall of ha
sticks and sand. The water continue
to flow around the wall, but
surprisingly, the rate of flow and th
direction of flow downstream
changed. Because it moves more
slowly, ponded water reduces the flow of water moving past it, and so
reduces the erosive power of a fast
moving stream.
