VISIT OUR PLUMBING FORUM!!! http://dunbarplumbingforums.com/DUNBAR/ - Customer contacted us on 3-28-10 in regards to a shower faucet that started leaking behind the wall after attempting to repair a leaking faucet. The 600 series Delta Faucet consists of 3 copper tubes that assemble the body of the faucet to the water lines. These 3 copper tubes become vulnerable when the bonnet nut is frozen to the body of the valve. Unsuspecting breakage can happen when the entire body of the valve begins to turn, which will crease and tear the 3 copper tubes in the back of the faucet.

We explained to the customer that we are accustomed to making these faucet replacements with absolutely not access to the backside of the faucet. In this particular situation, this shower is directly back to back with a tub/shower combination. Contact Dunbar Plumbing at 859-359-4833 to schedule your faucet replacement when situations like above occur. http://dunbarplumbing.com/

  • I wouldn't have published this video as indication of skill level or abilities. At the 0:50 mark the video shows how badly burned the wood behind the valve is. I realize there was no access from the back but a warning on flammable objects near the soldering area should be presented. Foil or other non-flammable is to be put behind the valve before using the torch. Luckily nothing caught on fire.

  • @QwikKota - At 37,000 views and growing, you forgot to ask if I sprayed that wood down heavily, including above and below the work area before performing the task and well afterwards when the soldering was complete. Foil will not withstand that type of heat and flame barrier type cloths actually can spread flame, not keeping those burn marks from showing up. The task is completed with a very satisfied customer, glad he found a plumber that could do the job without opening a wall up.

  • I have a new shower control dingy. Do I realy need to tear out my wall and change the rough out? The one thats in now is kinda small. I went from moen to delta.

  • @sixstrangtommy - If you're comfortable with working inside a small opening in the wall, similar to what I've done, no. But in order to make the switch from brand names, you will have to change out the rough in valve. I always take a spray bottle and wet down all areas around where I solder.

  • how did you soder if thats how you spell it.. behind where the other wall is? that must take some skill huh..

  • @dkingjimmy - It definitely wasn't easy, but given no access to the back side, I had to work with what I had. "Most" times, I have the ability to move the pipes as they run them long to the valve from the floor, which gives some flex. This only applies to copper piping though, not cpvc as the chance for breakage is far higher. I have other videos that I need to upload to youtube so people can see our work.

  • @sixstrangtommy This is kind of old, so I may be too late, but I would definitely not change the brand, stick to rebuilding. It's much simpler and there a far smaller chance of something going wrong, ESPECIALLY if you have an older home. My home is 90 years old and is loaded with outdated fixtures, sizes and pipes that are no longer manufactured (like cast iron pipes) and so on.

  • fuckin bitchin job didnt even use a coupling beuutiful thing

  • @QwikKota you dont know what your talking about so dont

  • So you un-sweat the hubs of the old valve where the pipes entered the valve? Impressive!
