The challenges facing the US public education system are enormous.

Despite attempts over the years to give all young Americans access to a decent education regardless of race or social class, the gap between educational haves and have-nots remains wide.

Al Jazeera's Nick Spicer reports.

  • You speak with a lack of education and maturity. Not all white people are against minorities. My husband is Palestinian and I have been fighting for Palestinian rights years before I married him. I am American born and German by blood. Don't bite the hands of people who fight for human rights for all . You are the kind of person who destroys the reputation of an entire race..

  • @bonzaibb12 What are you talking about. The video said nothing about all white people are racist. They were talking about education and inequlity in how funding is spread around. Do you want an applause for being being white and married to a minority, and "fighting" for human rights? Welll, clapp clapp!!!! Now press the re-play button to this video b/c you totally missed it's essence!

  • @rh001YT uhm, that's fantastic. I agree to a certain extent. But if you don't have school books how do you study! Alot of these students don't even have books.

  • Entitled fucks

  • the prime minister of India was born into a lower middle class family, and studied by kerosene lamp. Prior to becoming PM, he was a professor of economics. While more funds are better, virtually all american public schools have sufficient funds for a child to learn all the subjects that require memory, like history and sociology and literature, and cognitive skills like math up to the level of calculus 1. but if the child does not study at home, the child will not do well.

  • What about the National Merit Program and the National Achievement Program, please refer to section 14 of the SAT/NMSQT information page, 2 programs for scholarships for African Americans only, though there is a Latino version as well. I could see how they may use this to close the "gap" but its like replacing oranges with grapes. As a middle class white male looking for education opportunities I find myself asking if there is anyone to represent me.

  • fucking bastards charge the rich not poor

  • until education goes back to inventing and knowing things like history and discoveries and coverups then the education system will still rely upon brainwashing our children! Someone out there must take a stand on this! How many females out there really want a good education for their kids. Well think about this... if you do, then they can not own the publishing companies that are oked by the govenment that is suppressing the information, or members of that party and yes its Aipac!

  • Way to go Al Jazeera and the students. Property taxes due fund school systems, and I am glad the students know this.

  • Fantastic coverage of educational disparities. Too bad this issue isn't covered by more mainstream media outlets.

  • ----It took Al Jazeera to get this issue covered?
