One of the projects that 'got away' is my documentary on Johnny Eck, known as the Half Boy in sideshow lore and, in particular, Todd Browning's film classic FREAKS. Boy do I love that film, a real influence on me. In 1986, My friend John and I tracked down Johnny Eck in Baltimore which was no easy feat; when we arrived, Johnny couldn't have been more gracious. We even signed his guestbook. I had a correspondence with Johnny for a while, but then he passed away in 1990. For years, I wanted to make a documentary, but it's never really evolved much beyond the trailer stage. Oh well, who knows. One day...

In the meantime, check out Jeff Gordon's Johnny Eck Museum online
http://www.johnnyeckmuseum.com/

And you can find much more about Johnny by googling away

The soundtrack on this trailer is The Leroi Brothers 'Dance With Me Tonight.'

And the other sideshow performer is a very young Pop-Eye Perry.

I'm Jeff Krulik and I salute Johnny Eck.

  • wow - this is a cool video! nice song, too!!

  • I saw PopEye at a fair sideshowin the early 1960's, either in North Dakota or Manitoba. The only thing I remember about that trip was the black guy who made his eyes pop out.
