Pontiac broke with Detroit practice in 1955 by introducing both a new body, which it shared with Chevrolet, and a new powerplant, the overhead-valve "Strato-Streak" 287.2ci V-8 engine, a long overdue event as Pontiac was the last manufacturer to build a compact V-8. Its displacement only beat out the previous straight-eight flathead by 18.8 cubic inches, but it generated another 180 hp.

This elegant Star Chief hardtop is equipped with the 287.2 and a Hydramatic automatic transmission, the core unit of what is believed to be the car's original powertrain. A two year restoration saw the car's mechanical systems rebuilt, including suspension, brakes and instrumentation. The showy Red and White interior is right in step with the new Bolero Red and White Mist paint scheme. Wide whitewalls, chromed wire wheel covers and chromed fender skirts are classic period touches.

This is one of the best of its kind, a multiple award winner with an AACA prize and a 2nd place in the 1997 Pontiac Club meet in Denver.
