Grumpy Ojii-san's been watching cartoons for a long time. When he sees something he likes, he wants to tell people about it. When he sees something he doesn't like, he want's to gripe about it. And sometime he doesn't know what to think.

This time, the narration was shot along Mesquite Canyon in Arizona's White Tank mountains.

Grumpy Ojii-san gives his opinion of the anime OVA series "Gun Buster 2" (Die Buster), a sequel that apparently took 20 years to make.

A follow-up to the previous review of the original "GunBuster: Aim for the Top!". (Both reviews were inspired by comments on SOSBrigadeFilms' vlog.)

  • Nice touch with the black and white/tableau ending part.

  • Near, and including, the culmination of the story of Diebuster does the viewer finally have all the pieces of the puzzle and, at last, see the connection. The ending was a revelation, and I can't say anything more without giving it away, that made this sequel just as important as the original OVA. As a final thought, I don't quite follow how you didn't enjoy GAINAX's more modern animation style. Twenty years can be subject to many changes, and in this case it shows just how much they've grown.

  • The original was indeed a classic and forever holds a special spot in my heart, and when I first approached the sequel I was surprised at the time gap (not the animation difference, mind you) in the story; it left me wondering through each episode how the two OVAs were connected. However, as the series went on, subtle hints started to show as to how this sequel was linked to its predecessor.

  • I love both Gunbuster and Diebuster, but in order to do so I had to take a similar approach to Diebuster as I did the video game "Chrono Cross". Much like Diebuster, Chrono Cross is vastly different from the original, "Chrono Trigger". I felt it was best to consider them separate entities for the most part, but know, just in the back of my mind, that, "Yes, this is a sequel."

  • I actually watched Diebuster first but while waiting for the fifth episode I Went and watched the original after finishing it I did feel really insulted diebuster It was almost nothing like first gunbuster that is until the very last episode.

  • これはとても素晴らしいおじいさんですね。

  • I loved the original, but I loved the sequel even more. Does that make me weird?

  • EVERYONE, Diebuster is awesome! I've seen both series and theyre both great!

  • Yeah...I really liked Gunbuster a lot and I'm hesitant to pick up this series. The mech designs looks pretty damn ridiculous in this show. And while I am capable of looking past an issue like that (I love Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann for example) I think the problem here is that the original Gunbuster looked really damn cool, and by comparison, the mechs here look kindof...well...stupid.
