If GM lives long enough to release the Volt in 2010 and you were able to get the #1 spot on the waiting list, would you consider purchasing it were affordable?

I like to look on the bright side though! I seriously hope you are right and they take this thing by the horns! I want to see them succeed by making a car people want and need. I just can't help but to excercise caution. In fact I'd be completely stupid not to.

The shareholders and outside groups usually have a controlling number over the board of directors. They are pretty much recieving instruction from them, or as you might think of them "lobbyists" or something. So your theory is flaw. And no, it's not just a simple "in the past" thing. It has been since the beginning of GM. It is even local, here St. Louis used to have a trolley system.. no more..

GM isn't a living entity. Ultimately it's the people who make the company. And GM's upper management is new. That's why they have been getting outstanding reviews and multiple car / truck of the year awards these past few years.
Disliking GM because of their history is as stupid as liking the new Camry just because the old one was good.

I hope there is a mileage war. :)
And you cannot criticize anyone for being anti-GM. They brought it on themselves throughout all of their history. And I don't think they care. They demonstrate that constantly. Stripping america of it's cable cars, and public transit. Many shady things.. unfortunately. :( If the volt works out, maybe they can redeem themselves and come around. I hope they do!
Isn't it symptomatic that there will be a waiting list! Have you ever heard of any OTHER car with a waiting list?? GM won't be honest, if the VOLT is actually produced, it will not be more than in tiny numbers.

Well it was interesting to hear about the car, but I don't like you felt the need to turn this into yet another anti GM video.
As pointed out in who killed the electric car, the average person doesn't have to travel very far in a day. So who cares if there isn't going to be another 100+ mile EV anytime soon? 40 is good enough.
And you KNOW once the Prius plug in hits the market (or any other plug in / EV) there's going to be a mileage war.

I was the one who suggested to GM and Ford that they do a serial plug-in hybrid, to outflank Toyota's Prius. But GM is not serious about the Volt. Yes, if they made it, it would be a winner: but if they wanted to, they'd have to learn something about batteries, and they would try to sell to the former EV1, HondaEV and RAV4-EV demographic.
