SWEETS recorded on the Los Angeles Soultown label. The vinyl release is dated around 1966/67. The singers are possibly linked with the same girl group that recorded for the Valiant label in 1965...a trio that included Felice Taylor and her sisters Norma and Darlene.
The Soultown label was run by aspiring LA. producer and impresario Bobby Sanders, influenced by Berry Gordy's success with Motown.
The Sweets flip, 'Satisfy Me Baby', was a popular uptempo dancer on the Northern soul scene in the mid 1970's. Consequently it gained a reissued pressing on a simpler designed label.
Other artists who have recorded on the same label include; Tempos, Delicates, Little Helen, Ray Agee, Travis McKinley, McKinley Twins and New Young Hearts. Also, actor Burt Ward --'Robin' in the 60's Batman series.
Bobby Sanders also recorded 'The Way I Feel' on the Pick-A-Hit (100) record label.

  • Nice to see footage of Sandy Holt, iremember seeing more of the dancing footage on some tyne tees documentary, when they're dancing to afternoon of the rhino.

Anyone have that footage? - Be nice to see it again as it includes my old buddy from bradford Vernon who was in most of the dancing comps at wigan alongside little paul also from bradford.

Thanks for at least some of the footage Rob.

  • Thanks Steve ...the original broadcast programme clip with soundtrack appear to be hard to track down. However, someone got hold of the footage and placed another track, instead of AOTR (other comments have mentioned 'Interplay') on a DVD Doc.

  • That is a good footage! But which town is in it?

  • Maria, it would have been nice to say LA, however I assume some of the footage was taken in Chicago.

  • This is my kind of sound! It doesn't have to be a fast stomper to be good and this just oozes class. Many thanks for putting this on, together with a superb vid.

  • Many thanks for commenting raygun.
