zx750 bad starter?

I was warning up the bike for a few when it suddenly turned off. I suspected it was out of fuel but the tank is filled about half way. Now ever time I hit the ignition It makes this odd sound and the tach jumps like the motor is reving... any input is apreciated.

If the solenoid is bad it wouldn't revolve in the first place. And it is established that the motor is revolving looking at your RPM. I'm positive that the gear between the starter motor and the flywheel has come off or gone bad or something. It is a 5 minute job to check it out in most bikes

check your starter selonoid and your starter relay...first off charge your battery and make sure all connections are clean
