i think both songs are pretty amazing. i think both have obviously different qualities and i like that this one isn't a carbon copy of tom's (of course).

Hell, if it weren't for the name I wouldn't even know what song this is supposed to be. It's pretty terrible. So far the only cover of this song I've liked was done by The Alter Boys, and it's also the closest to the original. Don't fix it if it ain't broke.

I usually love Cat Power, but she doesn't exactly capture the feel of the Tom Waits original in this cover. More than that, she doesn't exactly make her own interpretation of the feeling. It's the same song with less vocal tonal accuracy and slightly more modern musical equipment. I'm just not feeling it. :/

Im a big fan of Tom Waits but i don't care if people do covers of his work, I'm sure the guy who wrote 'Somewhere' didn't mind Tom doing it.
