The Porbeagle can (only) be distinguished from the Mako by the white spot at the base of the dorsal fin and a slightly stubbier build - otherwise they are more or less identical and the populations overlap slightly. The Porbeagle can be found all the way up to Greenland while the Mako is mostly a tropical species...

Im sorry to say chaps but that is 100% a mako! the nostrils give it away as they are long and narrow but also the snout distance from eye to nose tip is too long for it to be a porbeagle!

@PlanetSeaFishing iv been catching them for years of the south west coast of Ireland i find they perfer pollock rather than makeral what did you use for bait iv never went fishing in winter form them what depth were you in...

Aint no mako, been catching porgies for year so know what one looks like. And it was the middle of winter!
