I was bored and needed some entertainment for my self lol so I took apart a working seagate barracuda 20gb hard drive to get the main board and motor to test other motors.
Since most hard drive uses a 4 wire/phase setup but this one only uses 3 so i can make it work on other brushless motors like a CD-Rom motor or a old laptop floppy motor.
Even has some gyro or gravitational effects :P
Also I can wait for my RC brushless system to come in the mail with 20A ESC and 1500Kv brushless motor.

  • yo.. the hard drive brushless motors are good for Power generation, run the 3 phaze wires through some diodes and a cap, you'll get power.. pull string flash lights use the same motors for generation.

  • if i can get big ones ill try to make it run off of a rc engine that i have but i know a place where i can get giant old dead hard drives for $3 that have BIG brushless motors in them. But these little pussy drives are nothing compered to older or server drives out there

  • not older.. NEWER.. the Windings make the difference when it comes to RPM's.. 10k rpm drives, or 15k rpm drives are ultra fast.. most out there are 5.4k or even 5k rpm drives..

  • like i said i can get server drives with 15k rpms dead ones for $3 to a $1 mostly like 10gb ones

  • ey man, can you please show how you use the controller to run the stepper motor please?

  • get a hard drive, find where the motor output is, if there is 4 phase/wires its still ok, take it apart and remove the head and see if it still runs, then find a motor that has 3 phase with 9 poles or 9 windings then get the 3 wires and connect them on to the hard drive board you can connect it anyway you can and it will still run but only 3 out of 4 will work so try connecting it and test it if it doesn't spin up try other wires

    wiki this Gyrocompass

  • Gyro effects? Lol, it's called Inertia...

  • about like... 1 star.. in slow motion... (wow that took like 10 minutes maybe 20 to type.)

  • couple of thousand, 10 thousand... 20 thousand.

  • yes, unfortunately, the faster the drive, the smaller the max size..

  • thanks man
