  • Even when it's being made fun of, Seinfeld is hilarious.

  • @allaroundfilms no its a testament to the staying power of the materiel satirized then. seinfeld has become culturally ubiquitous. you will never see a smart cartoon poking fun at 2 and a half men, because who fucking cares?

  • that's totally Paul Reiser

  • @JohanStarDragon Ah, I see.

Seinfeld is fundamentally American, even if people might consider it to be a critique of American culture, and people (network execs mainly), in its earlier years, considered Seinfeld to be too 'New York' and too 'Jewish'. I don't see it like that, but I can understand how some people might view it that way, and this view impacts on accessibility. I'm not sure if that's how you see it, but people do.

  • @MrLunitunz Either that or its because I'm half-British that I can understand the humor a little more easily than American humor.

  • @JohanStarDragon So it's the allure of British comedy for you.

I'll admit, we have made some good comedies, and your preference is your preference. I certainly agree that there are plenty of things unique to the two cultures that cannot be transferred over in a 'remake', for example the geniuses in network television want to do an American remake of 'Only Fools and Horses', a comedy show that is and always will be fundamentally British.

  • @MrLunitunz Actually I am an American. And the British version of Coupling certainly is better than the remade American version because there are certain things in British comedy that can't be translated into this culture.

  • @JohanStarDragon Really? And yet you like Coupling.

Tell me, are you an American? And am I correct in thinking it's the British version of Coupling that you like?

  • @MrLunitunz No, I saw it during its time and it still wasn't funny.

  • @JohanStarDragon It only seems that way because you're probably watching Seinfeld from a Post-1998 perspective. Because other sitcoms have shamelessly ripped off Seinfeld, including Coupling, Seinfeld itself now seems unfunny/dated to you. TV Tropes (for what it's worth) has a term for this, it's called 'Seinfeld is Unfunny'.

  • @MrLunitunz Yeah but there's a different. Coupling is actually funny.

  • @JohanStarDragon The British one? Honestly, that show that, by the creator's admission was influenced by Seinfeld? The show that the critics constantly compared to Seinfeld? That show!?
