"Slaying the Dragon Reloaded: Asian Women in Hollywood and Beyond" is a 30-minute video documentary that examines visual representations of Asian women made by commercial media as well as independent Asian American artists. The story picks up where "Slaying the Dragon: Asian Women in U.S. Television and Film" (1988) ends, with Hollywood representations of Asian women from 1984 to 2009 to explore how these images reflect the significant social and demographic changes that have occurred during the last quarter of the 20th century. The sequel also showcases Asian American media makers as the proliferation of alternative media creates more opportunities to challenge and broaden perspectives of women.

I agree 100%. Many asian women are totally complicit in discrimination against asian men. Why don't asian actresses insist on being paired up with an asian actor? Why is almost every asian actress in TV, commercials etc in the US..almost always shown with a NON asian partner? My favorite is when asian women 'complain' about stereotypes or supposedly rampant 'yellow fever', and then guess who they themselves are married to?! Very clever of them to complain as it takes all the focus off THEM.

I have to chuckle when I see asian women 'complaining' about stereotypes or 'complaining' about yellow fever, and so often these very women are married to NON asian men. Why do so many asian women go right along with this...chasing non-asian men....actresses allowing themselves to be paired with non-asian male love interests etc? These women are very clever: complain about how they don't like the stereotypes...put the blame on everyone else...and no one will question whether THEY are racist.

This is fantastic I really hope I could find somewhere to see this.
I especially loved Prof. Kelley's "browning of faces and whiting of character."
Also, completely in horror of the idea of Burstyn and Witherspoon in a 'Saving Face' type movie like-no just, no.

And to all the other people out there, quipping about these perverted Asian stereotypes, and then taking that same crap out on artists like me because Asian women happen to be my art subject; What the (bleep) do y'all expect me to think?!

As an African-American woman born and raised in the Pacific northwest, I happen to have a different view of Asian and Asian-American women than that of Hollywood. I don't see these women as "prostitutes" or as "geesha" girls. That's bullmess, and anyway, it's geisha! How can anyone be so ignorant as to purposely mispronounce geisha (gay-sha).

Discrimination against Asian women in Hollywood pales in comparison when compared to the viralent discrimination Asian men are subjected to. In fact, Asian women contribute and enable that discrimination because they contribute to the culture by accepting the stereotypes and perpetuating them.

Thats why Kelly hu (or any asian woman actor) was casted for this role
she was fulfiling the "comic fans" of the viewers...
in comics yuriko was a strong independent woman, set to do her own things in life

also, the kelly hu - X2 should be taken out.........
I don't know if you guys follow Comics but
the reason kelly hu was casted for Yuriko was due to the fact of wolverines natural exsistence and real story line....
In the actual comics, the man who created wolverines metal in his bones was a japanese scientist.... his daughter yuriko
they were on a military base when all this happened,
Yuriko stepped into to become a project like wolverine
