Greg Hopp drives the GP-15 Graham Trucking/Happy Go Lucky/PumpTech Hydro to a new APBA Grand Prix Hydroplane Kilo straight away record. The Engine rules have been changed from a 511ci engine to a smaller more reliable 468ci engine. The engine was run with the blower at 80%, the ratio used by the Unlimited Lights. The GP's can use up to120%, 400 horsepower more. The 2 way run through the one kilometer course established a new record of 155.182 mph (249.741 Km) Oct 2008.

  • The GP-17 set the 1 1/4 mile course heat record at 116+mph. No one has established the 1 2/3 mile and the 1 mile heat records yet. We ran in San Diego last weekend on a 1 2/3 mile oval with 2 boats GP-15 and GP-17 turning in laps at 125mph. Faster than the Bud Griffin on a 1 2/3 mile course. There is a lot of room for improvement in the Kilo as we ran 162+mph with the boat set up as an Unlimited Light at 80%

  • That is correct. Here's what happened. The Grand Prix engine rules were rewritten for better engine life and economy. For 2008 the 511ci unrestricted supercharged engine was deleted and 2 different versions of the 468ci restricted supercharged engine was voted in. They make about 1400hp. Because the engines were down sized the old GP records were frozen. So for 2008 there were no records on the books. We ran the kilo with the 468ci engine at 80% at 155+.
