This video dates from way back to 2004! I happened upon the video whilst looking through the files on my old computer. It is a music video I did just as I was getting into computer animation. Being a fan of Mike Oldfield I picked a piece of music that I liked and decided to put some visuals to it. The piece of music was a single that was released to accompany Mike Oldfield's album 'The Songs of Distant Earth'. This video was orignially done for a music video competition at my local camcorder club. I got the copyright clearance for it through being a member of the Film and Video Institute (www.fvi.org.uk) and set too.

The competition was only two weeks away from when I started it and so I worked on it in between going to work and gong to bed. The animation took 15 hours to do, using Cinema 4D. This included working out the beats to the music to set the timing for the flashing globes. There was also object movement to key frame and also the camera motion. One of the things that dictated some of the camera movement was the render time! With the globes having a glass type material, the transparency, reflections and refractions added to the render time. Hence as the camera pulls out it also moves down slightly to reduce some of the render lines that require the refraction to be calculated. It still looks not too bad though. The total render time in the end was 15 hour too.

When I watched it I thought it still appeared to stand the test of time and thought folks might like to view it. If Mike Oldfield sees it I hope he takes it as a complement to his excellent music. Enjoy.

  • @Asgairsson Hello there. Well, you spurred me on to dig it out and I found it! Look up Dreadream + Mike Oldfield and you should find it. Or just go to my channel. I'm guessing it'll be at the top of the list

  • @alanlmsca well, did you ever take into consideration to rip and upload it here? :) Kindest regards.

  • @an1dotcodotuk I entered it into a lock camcorder club competition and it did win! Although some didn't like it. They thought I was cheeting due to using computer animation rather than a camcorder. But at the end of the day, it is not the tool you use to make the film, but the creativity and effort you used to produce the final film. The film making process is still the same. I do have a fast computer now, so it probably would have easten it! Thank for you comment :)

  • Did you win? Render on a modern computer and watch it fly through in faster than real time :D

  • @alanlmsca I now what you mean mate,Alex,

  • @wea28annie Thank you. I'll try :) Trouble is, work gets in the way - hehehe ;)

  • @alanlmsca Turn the house upside down Alan i for one would love to hear and see your work, Alex.
