Well after some years of playing Fantaisie Impromptu properly.. I went onto learning other pieces though never found the time to really complete any. This included various difficult pieces (Transcendental Etude no.12, La Campanella, Chopin Etude no.1 (op.10?). And then latest of all, Alkan's Chemin de Fer.
Well this is the product of many hours of training, trying to get this to 112beats per minute, comes up to something like 14. something per second arpeggios. Apart from that mechanical piano, this (should) be the most accurate recording I've heard of the climax (worth about 5 seconds of the piece). Maybe one day I'll learn the whole thing, maybe not. All I know is that I'm studying at Uni full time and I suck at sight-reading.

  • VERY WELL DONE

the Le Chemin De Fer you played is one of the clearest and controlled ones I ever saw. Even better than commercial recordings I'd say

  • @FlyingBlackAndWhite many thanks, i just hope one day i'll get round to doing the whole thing. A few bars isn't much to talk about unfortunately.

  • I love how calm you look playing the entire time in the reflection on the piano. Serious props, man. Hope you get Chemin de Fer done soon!

  • Haha, thank you for the kind words... you must love lang lang =P (joke?)

  • Yes I love lang lang he is betterer than all the other pianists even hamelin and pace and agerich and horowitz (etc etc) all put together. In all fairness, he's pretty good, I just think that there are plenty of other pianists who deserve the attention more.

  • haha, seems some people don't appreciate the sarcasm, you got some thumbs down :P

  • o o o o o o o o oooooo sımmm.....

  • I actually really like how the climax sounds when played much slower... almost as much as full speed.

The intermediate speeds don't make it sound too good though.

  • painful

  • At 1:27 the left hand sounds like four seviquavers instead of 6s tuplets - I don't know why! My ears let me down! Still, I continue hearing the Chemin de Fer climax and those CHOO CHOO!!

You can make an Impromptu version with left hand leaps in Alkan's style!

  • you should read about chemin de fer on wikipedia, interesting thoughts about the tempo indication. personally i think the best tempo is aroun 100-105

  • IMHO this is "quite no so good" ...

  • In my opinion? :S I Just wonder what you meant by "-.-"??

  • @addeex1

    in your opinion?
