So mince pies are mincemeat? They sell mincemeat in jars from Thanksgiving till Christmas. Sometimes my mom makes a mincemeat pie. I think they actually have a little beef in them. They're a bit tricky to explain. I can't think of any American foodstuffs that taste all that similar. But basically, they are little pies filled with a sugary/cinnamony mix of raisin, apple and some other autumnal fruits. Often they also have brandy in them. The filling is called mincemeat because many moons ago it contained meat. It's a tradition that goes back at least 500 years.
