Being proud of having autism isn't the same as making it the central feature of your personality. I think you'll find AutismNets video's are focused on autism because the channel was created to help spread autism awareness. I doubt in reality it's her or her sons life but it will always be a part of their life as it will always be a part of mine and your nephews or whoever else who has the disorder.

I don't wish to correct you because there is no right or wrong way to bring up a child but i would want my nephew who has autism to be proud of how he copes with having autism rather than having autism. But then i'm not his mum. Anyway have a good day.

Maybe she was misunderstood. She never came back to explain. I'm just trying to say that when my son is older, I would want him to be proud of his Autism & everything else about him. Yes there is more to him then just Autism, but Autism is a big part of him as well. So I embrace him & his Autistic behaviors.

It's good that you're proud of your son and it's also good that you embrace his autism. All i'm saying is don't see him as autism, see him as Gavyn. I'm not saying you don't see him as Gavyn but i think Ommggg was very misunderstood.

Like I told OMG, I am proud of my son & he just so happens to have Autism. I love the person he is. I embrace Autism. Autism is a part of his life, that is just the facts of life. Why not embrace it? I am proud. That will never change.

Why would I want him to be different? Why would I want him to be something he isn't? He is who he is. I'm proud of that. I didn't ask for a child with Autism, I was delt these cards & I accept that & embrace that. If Autism is being different, them I'm ok with that.

Why would you want your child to be "differant".. Special, unique but differant gives me the impression of being out of the ordinary, a freak if you will. I'm not saying your children are freaks.

I'm sorry but i don't see what was so offensive about OMMGGG's comments. All he/she said was that there's more to an autistic indivudual than the disorder itself. Autism is nothing to be proud or ashamed of. Your personality is what you should be proud of. Or in this case your sons. I'm sure you and your son have very exciting lives and kind warm hearted personalities. By the way this is not a hate comment. I don't mean to cause offense. God bless.

It's people like you OMMGGGxx that make it necessary to spread autism awareness, i think your missing the point here. My son has Autism and i am very proud of him. children with autism have to work twice as hard to achieve the things that "normal" people take for granted and your telling me i shouldn't be proud of my son?
