Great 45 that is very likely to have been produced in the UK for Malta export only (I mean the physical record... not the recording). Compiled on the LP only compilation "owski-urities". Super primitive sounds - the ups and downs in volume and the lo-fi recording is the way it was recorded and pressed.

If you collect this kind of stuff on 45 - drop me a line as I quite often have similar records or spares for trade etc... If you played in the band or know a band member - please let me know. If you have the record at home and it's nothing you need to keep - please let me know. Thanks!

All soundfiles are taken from the record depicted.

Enjoy!

  • One thing i noticed is the similarity of the first riff of this song with the main riff of The Beatles's "Come Together". It sounds almost plagiarized. But beyond that point, the song becomes great. Ray Agius is no less good than Deep Purple's Jon Lord. Great! Malta's got talent !

  • This is the problem in Malta: good musicians find themselves in front of old-fashioned soundmen. Another thing i cannot understand is why the name of the band is "Malta Bums". I mean, in the 1970s, typical names would have been: Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Black Widow, Judas Priest . . . so why was this one named, "Malta Bums", with that silly letter "s" at the end. I mean, imagine Black Sabbath being called: "English Tramps"! LoooooooL !

  • Considering that Malta is an extremely conservative pre-industrialized convent - erm - country, this vinyl is relatively a masterpiece. This song is structured, orchestrated, develops as it goes along, and is contemporary to its counterparts in northern Europe. Nonetheless, the sound engineering was still a` la 1930s, when the drums and bass guitar were disregarded and all was fine as long as the singer sounded fine.

  • the main singer of this Maltese group is still active till today but the group no longer exists. he is Freddy Portelli, but i think this is Bajzu as lead singer still active himself.....great memories thanks from Malta

  • Good to see another fan of rare esoteric psych funk, freakbeat, afro funk, jazz fusion, jazz, etc out there. Cheers for posting the tracks.
