  • Really pleasant to watch. Tell me, in learning piaffe had he done any ground work on this previously or was it all tried just straight from the saddle.

  • No previous work on piaffe. This trainer did about 10 minutes on the ground with a student on top of Smokey - on the second day of training.

  • If you are open to the concept of old souls, then I would say Smokey knew these moves under saddle, but had never done them with a human in his current horse body. Please don't think I'm crazy. Laura

  • Yes, Smokey was really trying and working hard. He was always a good soul, and such a gentleman. Also, a gentleman breeder. Wish I could post a video of that, but . . .

  • Maribeth,

I'm so glad you like the video. Yes, for sure, Wild will progress to this level and beyond. Our Lippys are incredibly trainable and agreeable if they have kind, respectful trainers / owners.

  • Thanks, Eileen. Yes, his tempe's are awesome, especially since you are watching the first time he was ever asked to to them . . . and, he had not been ridden for six months . . . basically, mostly just standing around. What a guy (the horse), huh?

  • HORRIBLE! Painful to watch. Does anyone notice the extreme stiffness in the hind end? Why was he forced into this position after six months off? He wasn'y physically

ready to be attempting these movements. He does the tricks! Does this idiot in the saddle FEEL at all? And despite the rider

he trys and trys. His canter is beautiful but not coming through in the hind end.

No flexion in the hocks. Bergman at Temple farms really screwed up this beautiful horse who had a heart of gold.

  • He is just to die for. I love the Maestoso line.

He's so talented. It makes me want a Lipizzan. XD

  • very nice! That´s how piaff should be introduced!

  • Gosh, this really makes me want a Lipizzan! But I believe most of it is how we handle our horses, and knowing how to bring out the amazing richness all horses' souls have. :)) This fellow in the video flat-out knew how to ride and how to ask for what he was wanting, so that the horse could understand. Beautiful job.

  • i ove smokey i have looked him up o the internet i have seen videos of his owner helping him through the hard times and everything i just think he is beautiful

  • Ive watched your vid, and can only say WOW what a amazing horse!

In january this year,I needed sadly take away my 3-year old lippy gelding... And even when I see your horse, I can see that the spirit an lipizzan horse got, cant be found in any other horses. They got something extra. =)

I cried when i read about when your horse passed away.. I wish that every horse in the world could have a owner like you... =)

    Best wishes!

    Andrea from sweden

  • I don't think your're crazy! I too have a Lipizzan;they are so wise they seem like they've been here before. However, the breeding for high school does show. My horse offers Piaffe when he is very excited, or if the other horsesare playing - they are all racing around the field and mine is in the middle doing airs above the ground (Capriole is his speciality!) none of this is trained - its all just in there!
