Even if that were the case, that's an electrical problem with the car, not the AP.

No lol, what im trying to say is the AP doesn't turn on unless my motor is running. Not sure why. I was just messing with it 20 min ago. Once the AP is on I can turn the motor off and leave the key in the "on" position. Pretty weird.

Precisely. Turn the ignition to "ON".
No need to start the motor. Just "ON".

My AP doesn't respond unless I turn the ingnition (engine) on. Then once im ready to load the map it will stay on if I turn the engine off and key back to the "on" position. Kind of weird which is why I was confused.

the instructions on the AP when it cant connects says turn the ignition ON . . . not just the battery.
