@Orcinus24x5 I'm not talking about what is but what could be. fuck linear. switchmode owns
-
@DanFrederiksen Switch mode power supplies have poorer regulation, and much more noise and ripple than a traditional linear power supply. Some of them produce quite a bit of RF noise, and that can be a concern if radio interference is an issue. It is generally easier to find a linear power supply with current limiting / constant current mode than a switch-mode one, although they DO exist. It really increases the price though.

@EEVblog I feel like an ass. Sorry for the trouble. Dunno why I was fighting you.

Dave, could you mention how to use current shunts in one of your videos? I kind of get them, but I'm not exactly sure how/when to use them.

@LauxHawk Hmm, I come from Gilbert, Arizona...

@LauxHawk Even in the U.S. we call it soLder. Not soDder.

I think "LauxHawk" has been on the receiving end of a little too much "soddermy"

@EEVblog Again.. A stupid American that makes us all look dumb. We both have our pronunciations and they are both correct. It's the just the way our language evolved in our society. My apologies for the few that do ruin it. I am American and I love the UK/Australian English pronunciations.
To be fair.. us Americans and Australians both borrowed our languages from the UK :)

The Powertech MP3086 seems to be identical with the Sako SK1730SBP3A.
I don't understand why voltage regulators would "vibrate off" if not bolted down? Surely they're soldered on to the PCB just like any other component? Can anyone explain?

@ForViewingOnly They are much more susceptible to resonant modes due to their very long vertical lever. As opposed to say a flat resistor mounted horizontal.

It's $150 wholesale price from Electus. Anyone with an ABN can get a cash account at Electus.
