This is very impressive but what I find strange about this video is it's like a foresight into the future since the whole series became CGI a year or two afterwards.

any tutorials on how to do this? I have vegas pro 9 and adobe elements 7 hopefully that is enough, any hints tips would be welcome.

Not sure what to suggest as I'm hopeless at giving decent advice. :-(
You need a 3D Program for one like 3D Max, Maya or similar.
(I'm not heard of, Vegas pro 9 and adobe elements 7)
It helps to start simple and slowly expand.
And practice practice practice.
