Dr. William Bengston shares his thoughts on what he calls "open-minded skepticism," the healthy stance to take in the face of others' theories and beliefs. He tells us that with certainty, there is often no room for error or for doubt, thus little room for growth.
There is a balance between believing and thinking for ones selves. Don't get me wrong Dr. Bengston I agree fully of what you say.

Skepticism (Merriam-Webster): : an attitude of doubt or a disposition to incredulity either in general or toward a particular object; the doctrine that true knowledge or knowledge in a particular area is uncertain.
Synonyms to skepticism are: distrust, distrustfulness, dubiety, incertitude, misgiving, mistrust, mistrustfulness, query, reservation, doubt, suspicion, uncertainty
Empiricism: the practice of relying on observation and experiment especially in the natural sciences.
