Yep, I just bought my first option ever last Friday and sure enough I didn't look at IV only at historical. Fortunately, by Friday afternoon I was up $5 so I must of done something right. I bought 1 Dec. $5 call on XIDE. I also went out to Barnes and Nobles and bought "Options Made Easy" by Guy Cohen. I won't ignore IV next time.

great video, i actually fell into the implied volatility trap! I was right on my call, but IV dropped =/

Don't feel bad - you're not the first to fall into that trap! It most commonly happens when one buys calls, and the stock (or the market, if you've bought a call on an index) goes up slowly. Often the effect of IV falling affects the call's price more than the effect of the underlying going up, and the hapless call buyer actually LOSES money even though he was right about direction.
