All the Computer Graphics from the Movie Tron.
In full length and chronological order. But this time - CGI (Computer Graphic Images) only! The exception proves the rule. : )

This Version contains NO music from Wendy Carlos! (Diese Version enthält KEINE Musik von Wendy Carlos!) Sad not to hear the wonderful and unique soundtrack of W.Carlos but she, or probably more the Record Company, were not amused by my first Tribute - and it got deleted. So i did a Carlos-Music-Free Version of the Tron CGI Shots Tribute this time. All Music is from ISAO TOMITA! Tried to keep the Spirit as far as possible... and Isao Tomita fits perfectly, in my humble opinion.

Quote Wiki: "To create the computer animation sequences of Tron, Disney turned to the four leading computer graphics firms of the day: Information International Inc. of Culver City, California, who owned the Super Foonly F-1 (the fastest PDP-10 ever made and the only one of its kind); MAGI of Elmsford, New York; Robert Abel and Associates of California; and Digital Effects of New York City.

Bill Kovacs worked on this movie while working for Robert Abel before going on to found Wavefront Technologies. More than 500 people were involved in the post-production work, including 200 inker and hand-painters in Taiwan.

Tron has a distinctive visual style, as it was one of the first films from a major studio to use computer graphics extensively.

Three designers were brought in to create the look of the computer world.

Renowned French comic book artist Jean Giraud (aka Moebius) was the main set and costume designer for the movie. Most of the vehicle designs (including Sark's aircraft carrier, the light cycles, the tank and the solar sailer) were created by industrial designer Syd Mead, of Blade Runner fame.

Peter Lloyd, a high-tech commercial artist, designed the environments.

However, these jobs often overlapped with Giraud working on the solar sailer and Mead designing terrain, sets and the film's logo. The original Program character design was inspired by the main Lisberger Studios logo, a glowing body builder hurling two discs.

  • at the beginning of the tank sequence, what tomita song is that please?

  • @rhoggard76 This is from: Tomita - The Planets: Uranus, The Magician.

  • Hi MetalApe! Thank you for compiling and posting this. Your tribute was my reason to buy a copy of the Tomita Planets :)

I'm wondering about the part between 2:29 till 3:29 though.. it seems its not part of the planets. Can you tell me where this comes from? Is it Tomita?

  • @jeroenk5 Thank you so much for your friendly comment. Im glad you like it. The part you are asking about is indeed from him. An interpretation of Maurice Ravel - Pavane pour une infante défunte.

  • timeless mate gr8 post :)

  • To bad someone got their panties in a twist, but the visuals are still excellent. Tron is a wondrous film, and one of my favorites. I dig the production stories of how they worked out mixing the different mediums,(Back lighting /CGI /other) into a cohesive style. Tron is unique! Thanks MetalApe.

  • @MetalApe gotta add that one to my vinyl collection !

  • tron is an fantastic visual film, but the story is a bit weak in few place, mostly in the end.

  • I'd love to see this again, why o why must the TV networks insist upon the same repeated shit like The f***ing Mummy every other night and never show classics like this?

  • Tron basically changed everything! the CGI still looks amazing today! the influences are everywhere from other movies to News programme intro's

  • Did you use the music from Logan's Run?

  • yeah i found it :) Thanks again!
