One of my most successful productions: released in 1966, written by Bobby Hebb, this became a monster hit for all concerned, in addition to being covered countless times by others.
A wonderful collaboration with Ashford & Simpson and Melba Moore providing the background vocals, along with Academy Award-winning arranger Joe Renzetti (The Buddy Holly Story).
BMI notes that "Sunny" is in the top 25 of 21st Century of all-time hits and there are over 502 cover versions of this classic song.

Way back when, I worked for a 'Todd's Mens Wear' and there was a Carnaby Street thing at the fairgrounds in Detroit. Bobby Hebb sang at it and later came over to our little booth and I tried to sell him a pair of pants to go with a shirt he had picked out. He didn't like any of my choices and I don't think he bought anything else as far as I can remember, but it was still fun to have tried to sell him something and to have met him.

This is a masterpiece of record production, the perfect storm of a great voice, great song and great producer coming together to create a timeless gem that has entertained millions and millions of people. Bobby's genius stretches far beyond "Sunny", the song but a glimpse of his unique and wonderful gifts. So too,Jerry Ross created some of the finest pop in the history of recorded music, beyond co-writing "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" to his hits with Keith,Spanky & Our Gang, Jay/Techniques etc
