Its cool (not really) to take the cap off when its hot but never add water to a hot engine! you'll crack the block!

you can cause some serious metal fatigue if you do that. Expect a blown head gasket or cracked head after fixing your cooling system.

i second that comment. You NEVER open an overheated radiator. You could have had your face blown off.
