Even if your not going to bug out, having a multi layered plan for food and water storage is key. Whether its long term storage with beans and rice down to MRE's you can eat without cooking having all of these choices in your arsenal will keep you ahead of the game. Preparing for disaster ,armageddon , swine flu outbreak or losing your job, power outage, flooding, having transport lines cut off. These things dont have to keep you and your family from surviving. With little assistance.

  • Well for 72 hours, you've pretty much got it made :p But what if the grocery store shelves remain unstocked for weeks, or months... Im afraid i failed miserably to get that across earlier lol. I meant for long term sustainment. Daily life, when living simply to survive, can be very taxing, and may require large amounts of nourishment, to do it in a healthy manner. Short term rations, such as those for 72 hours too a week are great, but what about the long run?

  • well, the long run would require a bigger plan, some land, and its still no guarantee

  • how many calories per day?

  • thats a big question, are you fit, do plan on exerting yourself, are you bugging in and keeping your movement to a minimum? height weight, you'll have do decide whats best for you.

  • If physical exertion was kept to a minimum it might suffice. But caloric intake aside it is recommended to get multiple servings of most food groups to mantain general health. I cant imagine you'd be sitting in a corner not moving for the majority of your time. It may be enough to keep your vital functions going for a long time, but what about your overall physical condition? I see such situations as being quite strenuous. Actually, I think this topic might make for a great discussion.

  • I agree it does make great conversation, I have a few vids coming up where I only used those mainstay rations for 72 hours. It was easier than I thought.

  • Good videos but I suspect you made an made an incorrect assumption about servings. For example, the recommended servings per day are as follows:

grain products- 6-11 servings per day

    fruit/veg- 3-5 servings per day

    protein- 2-3 servings per day

    dairy- 2-3 servings per day

    fat/sugar- "sparingly"

The American food pyramid does not count 1 serving as 1 meal as it is not recommended to make a meal out of any one item. The intention is to eat a variety of foods and servings help to portion them out.

  • Awesome indeed! New preppers will find this video particularly useful and it's a great refresher for the oldsters too.

I imagine a lot of people will die in a shtf situation by drinking contaminated water. A few of those crypto cysts could do people in, especially if they're in a weakened condition. A lot of people will drink contaminated water when they have a perfectly good bottle of bleach in their laundry room.

I wonder if colloidal silver would help with a digestive track infection?

  • People who dislikes this will most likely steal your food during a emergency

  • According to dieticians a low calorie daily diet calorie count is 1800-2200 calories per day. So i would definitely include a daily calorie count into a food storage plan.

  • @beast12101 i second that. well put.

  • Thanks for the great videos - only negative comment is regarding serving sizes thing but that has been mentioned by others so I won't say anything about it. Thanks for sharing your system with us. Costco is great for this. I've bought many of the same items, biggest problem for me is 1) not eating the stash and 2) storage that keeps it out of my wifes' way, so she doesn't think these supplies are part of the weekly food budget / intake :)

  • only thing i wouldent buy would be crisco but other then that the rest ied buy

  • @Theoutdoorsguy1 I understand that, however, the recommended (low calorie) diet here shows 13-22 servings of food per day (not meals). To eat one serving of food as a whole meal would be the complete opposite of a party, resulting in quick starvation.

My original comment was to inform that the video maker was mistaking the total servings of food in his possession as total meals, which is too inaccurate to ignore. If one were to make this mistake they would be eating 1/4 to 1/7 of a lean diet.

  • @buckstarchaser But this is a survival thing, eat less: live longer, you're not going to party when theres a crisis.

  • Thank You for your informative videos. I have been storing & rotating bulk foods for almost 2 years. I have saved $ just from buying todays food at yesterdays prices. I have also learn t a few tips form your videos :) A large supply of salt is a good idea. Also in your medical kit some Vitamin B I , 100g a day stop mosquitoes form going for your blood. Vitamin D3 makes the immune system more intelligent & vitamin C for faster wound recovery. You use the D3 in winter & the B 1 in summer :)

  • Aspartame is bad for you just stock something else. I'm sure you already know this though. What is your opinion on "name" brand vs. "generic", as I see you have only "name" brand items. I would go generic to save money. Where's the dried beans.

  • i tought that my family was bad spending $250 on food
