On March 7th, 2010 Pfc. Nicholas Cook of Hungry Horse, Montana was killed in action when his platoon was ambushed in Afghanistan. During the fire fight, he rose from cover to provide suppressive fire for his comrades, exposing himself to a barrage of enemy fire from a force that greatly outnumbered the platoon. For his valorous actions that day, Pfc. Cook was posthumously awarded the Silver Star. Five of the soldiers who were there that day serving with the 173rd Airborne Brigade's Battle Company, 2nd Battalion 503rd Infantry Regiment, share the story of their friend and comrade, Pfc. Nicholas Cook, in their own words. Produced by Jesse Granger. Video by Jesse Granger, Jim McGee and Sgt. Edwin Perez.

As a Vietnam vet and living near where Nicolas was from, this video makes me feel very proud to know we have guys like Nicolas and the ones in the video, willing to serve in the military today. A very appropriate Memorial Day video.

It is so heartwarming to see and hear these soldiers, in the short time they had to know Nick, to completely understand and appreciate this fine young man. It is comforting to know he was surrounded by these special soldiers at the end.
