  • dont worry... Costa Ricas crocs are pura vida ; )

  • in 2003 I broke three boards in one day at witches. Only thing left to surf was a 9'6" croc. I am not kidding I had a three hour evening sess on that buger and then left him alone. He kept surfin but he wasnt getting barrelled as deep as when I was ridin him. Now that I think of it, could have been a sheila. What started as a bummer turned into a Really fun day. Next time I hope to ride a 6'8" croc so I can really hit the lip.

  • Went to Costa Rica in 2007. Had also an encounter with a croc at playa grande, that's a spot next to Tamarindo. A rivermouth separates the two.

It popped up 15 metres from me & some other guys.

We paddled away towards the beach but stayed in the water.

I told it to a local i met the day before, he just laughed and took another wave.

I guess it happens very often. Must admit it was scary, the only animal i ever saw in the lineup before that croc was a seal. Easy choice!

  • crocs are way worse than sharks

  • the crocs name is shredder

  • Just had a two croc encounter up at Ollies' last week, no crap. Was actually pretty cool, well of course, me and my bro lived so...

  • @evilpaintball999 .. ur partially rite.. sharks might think surfers are seals in the water. but that only applies to sharks that live near and eat seals in their usual diet... sharks in costa rica and such (tropical waters) have never encountered a seal in their life before...so they cant "confuse" a surfer with a seal...

when they attack, they are mostly curious and/or hungry... but they are no human killin machines what so ever,,

  • @billybooooboooo Their is almost always guaranteed to be wildlife in surf spots, it's just the way of things. You have to accept it and becareful of them and know what to do on the chance of encountering them. Sharks are not forgiving but they're not viscious people eaters either. Us surfers lying on our boards look like seals from the bottom of the ocean. If a shark walked into 7/11 and bit someone in the ass id be pissed but we are kinda in their kitchen you know?

  • awesome dude lol

  • we got crocs here in miami ( the extreme southern part near the everglades) but they are always hiding. In costa rica, they kill

  • I've surfed Witch's Rock (Roca Bruja) many times over the years and have never seen a croc in the lineup. Doesn't mean they're not there, as evidenced by this vid. Looks like the croc was pretty far from the Rock though - I think there is a river mouth where they shot that part of the vid - crocs tend to hang around river mouths in search of food - or unlucky surfers :)
