@FeelthySanchez You are correct...add to the fact an MG34/40 the barrel heats up real fast from the rapid rate of fire thus initiating a mandatory barrel change which would have given the soldiers a chance to advance on the position!

In '89 or '90 I had the great opportunity to meet Rick Jason in person. He then looked exactly the same as in the great syndicated Comabt! roles that I vividly recall from the '60s (ie: no gray hair, etc). He was rather quiet, in fact.

Sadly, he committed suicide around 10 yrs later on October 16, 2000. Age: 77.

I haven't seen this episode in a long time. But I remember it being one of my favorites. At the end when they finally do take the hill, and have to leave it, Kirby sort of loses it and goes off on the LT. Awesome job of acting! Very touching and emotional. Kirby was a great actor! Caje was great as well. As for Vic... Best ever lol. Probably why combat! was such a great show!

@NormanSmith1960 What you say is absolutelly truth, but I have to add one extra detail,, as this movies or tv had shaped our psychology also made as believe that our guns can hit the target everytime and that we were nothing but the best of the best,,, making the germans look dumb,, in reality those guys would have not survive that machine gun more that a couple minutes,,,, and latter this became the problems we face today as a confused ignorant and out of touch with reality society.

This has to be one of the best directed tv episodes ever made. This is Steven Spielberg before he'd even seen a camera! He has to have seen this episode for the inspiration for 'Saving Private Ryan'.
