@YoitevsKira - he did not go to the bathroom first. He was anxiously waitinfg for the serum and tried to get it to his son. But he did not know Edwin's condition was that bad at that moment. So he went to his son's room..but too late

@coffinchick87 - Jack van Houten, who sailed to Africa came back and brought a deathly variant of the Ebola virus with him. One of the first people that died was Ron, the assistant who had a short relation with Edwin. Because of him Edwin got infected too and he did not survive. Although his father was working on a serum, he came too late to save his son..

We had less than a year to enjoy the Ludwin love story; during some of that, Lucas was in a coma. It is impossible to guess why the makers of "GTST" (Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden) decided to kill off Edwin, a well-loved character. Let's not forget: the writers also concocted a horrific end for Lucas' previous boyfriend, Marco - whom they turned into a psychotic mass-murderer. Sorry, this sort of repeated "bad luck" does not (repeatedly) befall the partners of the straight characters on GTST.
