Sri Lankan leader talks exclusively to Al Jazeera - 08 Oct 08

Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Sri Lankan president, has called on the Tamil Tigers' to surrender, as government forces close in on their de facto capital of Kilinochchi.

Rajapaksa, who is viewed as a hardliner, has long rejected the rebels' demands for Tamil autonomy.

In an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera, Tony Birtley began by asking him if the rebels were now on the brink of defeat.

Whats the future for srilanka? Ideas please because if its left as it is now, then there will be another uprising in 20-30 years time and we will be back to square 1!!!

If a political solution is found then sri lanka can become a first world country!

Federal system? or a unitary state with a president to represent ealam tamils?

or people of ealam joining as another state with India, which is what Nehru originally proposed in 1950s, and what our grandfathers stupidly rejected
