I love Bill Cooper but Gnosticism is a general meaning because there are tens of thousands of text and some are Valentineon or Sethian or some sect that been lost to history. What I'm saying gnostic is knowledge of any religion or belief that has not been in use because of the inquisition or Muslims killed them all. The Cathars of France are a perfect example. They believed in Jesus but not the old testament and had hundreds of books on Jesus the Catholic church doesn't want you to know.

It sounds like a tradition.The road to hell is paved with good intentions like you described but efforts for reaching divinity are like treasures stored up away from the finite confines of this existence.
