Joe and Sam exited the cafe as cautiously as possible. Sam didn't want to be mobbed by a group of girls. That would be the worst. First, they had to find a good thrift store to pop into. A costume store would work too. What ever they found first.
They walked quickly. Joe had his hood up and Sam had given him her large blue sunglasses. With his brown hair shaping his face, he looked pretty cute.
"You look funny." She giggled.
"Thanks." He smiled. "Where are we going?" He asked looking around. He kept his head scrunched up to his shoulders.
"We need to find a store." Across the street was the fluorescent sign of of clothing store. It looked like a small costume shop to her, but in New York, you never really knew. "Let's go in there." She suggested, pointing at the small brick building.
"Sure." He shrugged. "If it will help."
They crossed the street and opened the door. The bell jingled as they entered the musty paradise. Yep, a costume shop. But what looked like a vintage costume shop to her. It smelled like one too.
Joe took his hood off cautiously. The clerk behind the table seemed unaffected by the sight of him. This was a good sign.
"Let's look around!" Sam was excited. She loved looking around in places like this. Everything was so neat and unique. Her friends could literally spend hours in them.
She ran her hand along the racks of clothing and blindly pulled out a slinky Marilyn Monroe styled dress. She had to try it on.
"Choose something!" She called back at Joe. They were the only customers in the store.
Sam went into one of the two change rooms in the store and threw on the dress. It had a low swoop neck top to it and a halter back. Yes, very slinky. She slipped on the pair of high heeled shoes that were clumped at the top of the hanger and spun out of the change room very gracefully.
"What do you think?" She asked Joe who was browsing a few racks. He spun around to face Sam with a suit in one hand and what looked like a fur jacket in the other.
His mouth fell open and all he could say was "Wow." He clumsily dropped the suit in his hand and fumbled to pick it up.
Sam giggled. "You're almost as clumsy as me!"
"Ya." He laughed nervously. "Clumsy." Sam spun back into the change room and threw on her outfit leaving the dress in the change room.
