Dewolff and Associates: John, Sean, and Alex. Our balsa wood bridge project for ME 241 (Statics). Bridge made of balsa wood, dimensions 3/8" by 3/8" cross-sectional area (members) and 1" by 1/2" cross-sectional area (bottom). Measurement limits 24" long, 8" tall, 5" entryway. Bridge results: weighs 0.272 lbs, withheld downward force of 140 lbs; strength-to-weight ratio 514 (lbs strength per lb. balsa wood).

  • @pankajdahal I actually don't know, but everyone's truss was tested this way; it's still a downward force

  • Cool video, but I would offer the advice that you tested it at the wrong place. A bridge isn't designed to hold loads *there*.
