This video is our entry to the Reel Science Film Competition 2010.

It's about the science of human behaviour (psychology). It looks at human perception (or the lack thereof).

Our project is actually based on research done in America. Some reasons why we don't notice even obvious changes is that...
1. Our eyes only sample what's in front of us and our brain fills in the gaps. Our brains kind of makes assumptions about what should be there.
2. Looking directly at someone / looking someone in the eye is usually interpreted as a biological display of intimacy or a threat display.

Hope you enjoy the video! Please vote for us!
Holly, Chantelle, Rachel

P.S. Big thanks to Chris and Mr. Himme and all our unknowing subjects!

  • nice one guys(: 522 views, greeat job, goodluck(:

  • I seem to remember something similar on a documentary ages ago, except gorillas were involved. Cool music and titles.

  • @bhimme good stuff

  • @AHXinc Yeah we had to ask each one to sign the form... no-one really objected though, they were all quite surprised that they didn't notice.

  • @TFBOTI Yes we were planning on mixing it up a bit after a while (starting with subtle differences and moving onto the more extreme), however we simply ran out of time.... was hard enough to get this done and in on time.... maybe next year ;)

  • Thanks for complimenting our video, it still seems your's is still more popular though!

Interesting conclusion huh? Wouldn't you feel so psychologically evolved if you were the only guy that noticed?

Also, did the clueless volunteers have to sign some talent release form to appear?

  • iv seen it done with a white guy change into a black guy and the person didn't notice, try changing the clothes or making it easier to notice and see what you can get away with. same height, hair colour and clothes is waaaaay too easy to get away with
