Amir Khan vs. Lamont Peterson RECAP (boxing)

Amir Khan defended his Super Lightweight Championship against Lamont Peterson in Washington DC on 12/10/11 Lamont Peterson wins by split descion and becomes new champion. The fight didn't lack controversy though with Khan being deducted two points for pushing, one in which came in round 12. Will we see them do it again in a rematch?

It is nice to see Khan Exsposed as the man and figther he is. First of all he has no respect for his opponents and no respect for the officals. Second of all he could never fight on the inside he throughs alot of punches fast and flash and it looks good but if they do not land with power on the backfoot it showes how weak his punches are on the back foot no power and last but know way least Well Done Lamont Peterson You showed class and grace in the ring and on victory you deserve this victory

@brianbuzz1983 I was happy Khan was exposed as well. I've been pulling against him for his last 3 or 4 fights, but he's been walking away with victories. I feared that his shoe shinning would steal him rounds.

I agree with ur analysis, it's pretty sound. Khan is fast and his stamina is amazing, but he lacks punching power and boxing smarts....Besides being an energy fighter, he's pretty over-rated. Peterson landed the more effective, power punches and thus earned the win.

@kingofpendragon Khan's too cocky for his own good. That speed and stamina could set him apart from the good boxers, but yea he isn't sharp at all in the technique department. and he seems like he doesn't care to fix that problem...He also talked badly about Manny after the JMM fight and he spars with Manny a lot. I don't respect him as a man.

I was in dc for this fight, and sitting there i knew it was close, i didnt score it but i wasnt mad at the decison just the ref docking a point in the 12th of a title fight. khan was pushing in other rounds if he took a pt in like the 10th at least then khan knew where he stood and what he needed to do to win. but after i got back home i got to see it on hbo and i scored it 114-111 khan, even tho peterson landed the harder shots, khan was much more active, for me that was hard to ignore

@projectpaki Yea the deduction coming so late was really odd. I felt Khan for the most part was just doing a lot of shoe shinning. He wasn't put much on his punches, and he wasn't landing cleanly a lot of the times. He did have flashes where he looked really dominate though. I wouldn't have complained if he would have edged it out.

Can somebody please explain to me why Khan was being wined and dined by the state department? It seems to me that he's nothing but a spoilt brat millionaire, who is just as cocky and arrogant as Floyd... Yet Floyd gets dumped on and abused by the public, while Khan gets treated like some kind of bloody diplomat? Please, anyone?

@mrnourishment Yea Khan hand speed and power make him nasty on the outside but he's like a chicken with its head cut off from close. Peterson was hitting him with everything he had, that would have been a 2-3 round fight if Peterson could really hurt him.

@ChaoticMusicGroup Yea I agree. It's hard though because everybody judges a fight differently. Some like aggression, some like precision, some go by who hit the most times, some go by who lands the heavier shots. Unless it's complete domination it'll always be controversy. It cheapens the sport though when every fight it's talks of cheating.
