Today's post introduces the fourth of country singer Merle Hazard's Euro-shanties, this one taking off on the Ode to Joy from Beethoven's 9th. Teutonic C&W. Merle (if not Beethoven) will do anything to educationally amuse. So will we.

Germany's the soundest country that is in the Euro-zone
But we now are quite concerned about the bonds our bankers own

Loans to Greece, Italia, Espana, Portugal, Ireland, Belgium, too
Our European brothers may have trouble paying when they're due

When the Euro finally happened, we were relieved and overjoyed
Now we're feeling somewhat ill, with just a twinge of Schadenfreude
