This is a test of my senior design project showing the integration of a digital compass, ultrasonic sensor, LCD display, and drive and steer motors.
In this demonstration, The digital compass is originally facing North which is the desired target of the vehicle. The motor is therefore stopped and the car is facing front. As I move the breadboard containing the digital compass left, the motor kicks on and the front wheels turn incrementally more to the right in order to reach back to the desired target direction, as I move the breadboard to the right of target the front wheels turn incrementally left in order to reach back to the target direction. Then as I face the compass passed 180 deg from the target the front wheels switch from turning full left to turning full right (as this is now the more appropriate direction). I then place the compass back down in such a spot that it is not facing the target and the motors are turned forward. I then move an object in front of the Ultrasonic sensor and you can see the vehicle stop moving and the LCD displays an accurate distance in inches for the object. As I move the object closer and farther away from the Ultrasonic sensor you can see the cars movement stop whenever the boject is within 2 feet. This was a very successfully demonstration of the vehicles navigation capability, and as soon as packaging is complete we will hopefully be able to run the vehicle outside.
good stuff am loving it, how did you do that?
